Bentley’s Case Study
Signalment: 5y 6m M/N Golden Retriever 32.6kg
Case summary: In 12/2017, Bentley was referred to oncology for further workup of chronic diarrhea and hematochezia. An abdominal ultrasound was performed which revealed an intestinal mass. An abdominal exploratory surgery which included a resection of the descending colon was completed to remove the mass. Additionally, sampling of the liver and mesenteric lymph nodes were performed during the procedure. Histopathology was consistent with colonic lymphoma with hepatic and mesenteric lymph node involvement confirming metastatic disease. Post surgical intervention, chemotherapy treatment was initiated with MW-CHOP protocol and was successfully completed in 2/2019. The protocol was able to be extended by modifying the regimen with mitoxantrone substitution. Upon completion, in 4/2019 chinese herbal supplementation was incorporated to continue immune support for Bentley as the owner opted to not pursue metronomic chemotherapy with oral chlorambucil. Vitamin D supplementation was also incorporated into Bentley’s health plan. After two serial recheck ultrasounds within the last eight months, Bentley continues to remain stable with no signs of progressive disease as of 12/2/2020. His diarrhea has resolved and no gastrointestinal upset have been noted for prolonged periods since his initial surgery over two years ago.
