About CBD and Medical Cannabis For Pets
Q: I am interested in getting right:ratio for my pet. What do I do?
A: Begin by completing our information form by clicking here. After we receive your pet’s intake form, we will let you know by email if we can custom make right:ratio for you and arrange for invoicing, payment, formulation and delivery.
Q: Most other pet products don’t contain THC and only use CBD? Why does right:ratio contain THC?
A: We firmly believe that without miniscule amounts of THC, the medical effectiveness of CBD and other cannabinoids is greatly reduced and pets do not get the full potential of cannabis’s wellness power. THC and CBD have been described as “the power couple” of cannabis therapeutics” for humans.
Researchers have described the importance of this interaction as the “entourage effect,” which means that CBD and THC interact in complimentary ways. For example, it has been scientifically established that “CBD and THC interact synergistically to potentiate each other’s curative qualities. CBD enhances THC’s painkilling and anticancer properties, while lessening THC’s psychoactivity.“
Q: Won’t my dog get high if there is THC in the formula?
A: No. Our products are not designed to make your pet experience the psychoactive effect of THC, or make them feel “high.” Because each product is custom made based upon information provided about your pet using our proprietary software, we can tailor right:ratio to deliver the precise amount of THC and CBD, among other cannabinoids, to achieve the maximum medical benefits. In fact, some of the right:ratio blends we make contain ratios of CBD to THC as high as 26:1 and have less than .43 mg/ml THC.
Q: What are the key cannabis extracts contained in right:ratio?
A: Each formula is custom made to precisely combine select cannabis extracts that include CBD, CBDa, CBN, CBG, THCa and THC and cannabis terpenes, along with natural, select additives we choose for your pet’s specific condition.
Q: What exactly is CBD?
A: CBD is cannabidiol, a non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant with significant medical potential. It is one of over 400 chemical entities that exist in cannabis, and one of over 60 cannabiniod compounds. For example, there is CBD or cannabidiol, along with CBN or cannabinol, and CBG or cannabigerol.
Each of these cannabinoids has health benefits and each interacts differently with Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Q: How do you make the formula so precise for my pet?
A: We have developed proprietary software that allows us to use the scientific data we obtain from both our cultivators and third-party laboratory tests of our products before they are made into right:ratio. Each batch of input product (flowers and extracts) is tested by a third-party which produces a Certificate of Analysis (COA), the industry standard term for a written report on the chemical composition of the material tested.
We use the COAs from our suppliers and re-test each of our oils again with third-party laboratories to ensure accurate data about each cannabis component in right:ratio. For example, we have a high CBD oil that we know contains 58.92 mg/ml of cannabidiol (CBD) and which costs over $50 per ml because of it potency and input materials. Using our software, we can compute the amount of that oil we need to 1/100 of a ml (less than 1/50 th of a drop) to add the precise amount needed for the pet concerned.
Q: Why do you custom make each formula?
A: Like humans, no two dogs are exactly the same and their responsiveness to CBD and THC, among other chemicals, is not identical. We factor as much data as we can about your pet to determine not only the ratio of CBD to THC, but the potency of those components, as well as all of our other proprietary ingredients.
For example, proper formulation is equally dependent in some cases on the particular animal’s age and breed, not body weight. Similarly, some pets have demonstrated higher ability to tolerate THC while others are more sensitive to that component. By using our database and proprietary software, we take these factors into careful consideration when making your right:ratio, along with the most critical factor: the condition sought to be treated and the current medical regimen the pet is undergoing.
Q: Why are your extracts not from hemp? Most other pet products for wellness use CBD derived from hemp, not cannabis.
A: This has been a core principle of our product development because we believe the science supporting the entourage effect as noted above. Equally important, because most of hemp for legal reasons is still cultivated outside of the US and extracted there, the concern of toxins from the soil such as heavy metals, is very high. And since no cannabis laboratories currently test for those toxins in the US, consumers using CBD from hemp or industrial hemp, could be passing very high amounts of toxic metals to their pets using these products.
Q: How many times is right:ratio tested?
CA law requires routine testing by third-party laboratories of all cannabis products and we meet or exceed those requirements for each product. We only work with select suppliers that test their input product when it is cultivated and harvested. At that time, the input material is tested to the capacity of third-party laboratories’ ability for potency, microbiological agents, and pesticides.
After processing the extracts, we again test the product for potency and residual chemicals from extraction and will often re-do the micro-biologic and pesticide testing if we’re working with a new input product (e.g., new crop).
Q: Do you formulate products for cats or other pets?
A: Presently we limit production of our products to dogs and cats, but we know other animals such as horses can also greatly benefit from this medicine, so perhaps in the future we’ll be able to offer right:ratio to more species.
