Cannabis contains more than 500 compounds, including approximately 125 distinct cannabinoids and 120 terpenes. Our diligent approach to research, and to understanding medical cannabinoids, means we determine the exact combination of cannabinoids and terpenes for every formula we make. That's what we do. That's what sets Right:Ratio apart.
A promise, then a question
At the heart of Right:Ratio is a spirited pup named Miracle III. Back in 2015, Charles was on a mission to repay a debt of gratitude to Canine Companions for Independence, a renowned nonprofit that has been gifting the boon of service dogs to those in need since 1975. He began raising Miracle as a candidate for the same program.
She had other plans. Her impact was profound all the same: it was her journey, and the questions it sparked for our founder, that seeded Right:Ratio. She inspired a meeting of the minds between our founder and a veterinarian pioneering cannabinoid wellness for pets. In 2016, Right:Ratio launched, producing our first Custom formula built for a dog in her care. Six years of custom formulation later, the team drew on that hard-earned expertise in medical cannabinoids to launch the Right:Ratio Formulary line in 2022, making Right:Ratio Pet Cannabinoid Tinctures available to support pets everywhere.

The discipline behind every formula, every batch
Formulating with medical cannabinoids is not like formulating with a single active ingredient. Potency can drift from batch to batch, extraction method matters significantly, and small shifts in ratios of cannabinoids, supplements, and other ingredients change how a formula performs. The tools to manage that did not exist off the shelf, so we built our own: Right:Ratio's proprietary software incorporates a thorough analysis of our 10 years of custom formulations, along with breed, conditions, weight, and other pet-specific elements. Years of refining formulas against real data, pet-reported outcomes, and feedback from pet parents is what our Formulary line was built from. That work is never finished. Every formula we make is still being measured and refined against what pet parents tell us they are seeing.
The pet in front of you
No two pets respond the same way, even littermates, even the same dog at six months and at six years. That's why we ask every pet parent for a detailed profile of their pet: breed, weight, age, history, and what they are seeing at home day to day. That profile, rather than an average pulled from a chart, is what determines which of our formulas is right for them, whether that's a Formulary tincture or a Custom formulation.

We take the time to get it right
No inflated claims. We say only what we can stand behind, and we back every formula with third-party lab results.
Contaminant-free, by policy. Every raw material is tested for heavy metals and other contaminants before it reaches a formula. Anything that fails is rejected, whatever it costs us in inventory.
Veterinary oversight on every formula. A licensed veterinary oncologist reviews the science behind every formula before it ships, and has done since our very first tincture.

We work with a deep network of holistic and integrative veterinarians as they strive to provide the best possible support for the pets in their care. We share our research, Formulary recommendations, dosing protocols, safety and contraindication guidance, and relevant drug interactions.
Holistic and integrative veterinary practice works alongside conventional care rather than apart from it, considering the whole animal - diet, environment, stress, history - and not only the immediate concern. It is an approach that asks a lot of questions before it reaches for an answer. That is also how we formulate.
